Rep. Donald McEachin, D-Va., passed away Tuesday night at the age of 61. McEachin served in the U.S. Congress since 2017 and was a strong credit union supporter.
“Rep. McEachin was a strong credit union supporter who was always willing to meet with credit union leaders, particularly on ways we could work together to increase service to un- and under-banked communities,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “We’re very appreciative of his work with us, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
The Virginia Credit Union League and United Methodist Credit Union hosted McEachin for a visit in May.
"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Don McEachin, a respected voice and dedicated champion for the Richmond area and south-central Virginia. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues. Credit unions and the League worked closely with Rep. McEachin for decades during his service in the Virginia General Assembly and Congress," said Virginia Credit Union League President/CEO Carrie Hunt. "He was a vocal advocate for the underserved, and he praised credit unions for our work to serve these vulnerable communities. We are grateful for the Congressman's many years of support for Virginia's credit unions."
