CUNA, League-backed fair hiring bill in House NDAA

December 7, 2022
Cap1

The CUNA and League-supported Fair Hiring in Banking Act (H.R 5911) is part of latest version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2023. The NDAA is expected to see a House floor vote in the coming days.

H.R. 5911, introduced by Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, would expand employment opportunities at federally insured depository institutions by reducing barriers to employment based on past minor criminal offenses.

“We’re pleased to see this bill to expand opportunities for those convicted of minor offenses included in the latest NDAA package,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “We support efforts to reduce barriers to recruiting employees and retaining talent.”

A bipartisan Senate version of the Fair Hiring in Banking Act was introduced in October by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., Thom Tillis, R-N.C., Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Chris Coons, D-Del.
