The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) prides itself on “speaking military.” For the past sixty years, DCUC’s mission has remained centered on championing the interests of its member credit unions dedicated to serving those who serve our country. With Memorial Day quickly approaching,
DCUC recognizes the importance of this historic holiday and urges others to reflect on its true meaning during the upcoming extended weekend.
Memorial Day is a special holiday paying tribute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice so that our great Nation and its citizens may continue to enjoy freedoms and liberties without the threat of war, invasion, and further loss of life.
DCUC President/CEO Anthony Hernandez shares a special tradition involving the American Flag that can be incorporated in observance of Memorial Day.
“A simple way we can honor our fallen servicemembers is by including our children and grandchildren in the tradition of flag detail,” says Hernandez. “On the morning of Memorial Day, quickly raise the American Flag to the top of the flagpole, then slowly lower it to half-mast," Hernandez said. "This is to honor the fallen servicemembers who died for our country over the years. At noon, raise the flag to full height to symbolize the resolve of those still living to continue fighting for our freedoms. Through this tradition, we can demonstrate our gratitude while also encouraging others’ understanding of why this holiday is recognized every year.”
DCUC welcomes all to view and share its "Honor and Remember" video. This special production is one of the many ways DCUC says thank you to our Nation's military and veterans
