The message is simple and direct, and embraces the key concept behind credit unions: “Members Matter Most.”
Those three words speak to the heart of the credit union philosophy. The words also make up this year’s International Credit Union (ICU) Day® theme.
“In the face of all challenges, credit unions have always existed to serve their members,” says Brian Branch, World Council of Credit Unions president/CEO. “The clear and simple message—‘Members Matter Most’—summarizes credit unions’ reason for being.”
Since 1948, ICU Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday in October. This year it’s Oct. 18. These photos illustrate there’s plenty to celebrate.
ICU Day has added significance this year because it’s also the United Nations’ International Year of Cooperatives. The yearlong celebration, which began on Oct. 31, 2011, has provided greater visibility to credit unions and other cooperatives worldwide.
