If the University of Maine athletic department had a nickel for every time Maine Savings Federal Credit Union members swiped their debit cards…after five years, the Black Bears would have at least $50,000.
Thanks to the $282 million asset credit union in Hampden, this twist on the old expression is a reality.
Maine Savings recently unveiled an exclusive partnership with the university that allows fans of the state’s flagship college program to sign up for the new University of Maine Black Bear debit card.
Each year of the five-year agreement, Maine Savings will contribute a minimum of $10,000 to the university’s Black Bear Fund, which provides assistance on and off the playing field for Maine’s student athletes. The credit union will exceed its guaranteed donation if members combine for more than 200,000 swipes in any year during the deal.
