For the next year, Chad Durkee will serve as the face of CitizensFirst Credit Union’s young adult outreach program.
The accounting major at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh recently won an online competition to serve as the first Next Gen Outreach “Champion” for the $582 million asset credit union in Oshkosh, Wis.
Armed with a Macbook Air and iPhone6, Durkee will share his journey through college and discuss personal finance in a way that relates to current and prospective young members. He’ll also serve as an honorary member of the CitizensFirst marketing team, taking part in outreach events.
CitizensFirst selected Durkee from a field of applicants between the ages of 18 and 25 within the credit union’s field of membership because of his commitment to learning about finance and leading others in community service.
“Chad is a true role model for what the program stands for. The group and I are very proud to name him champion, and I know he will continue to inspire others to take hold of their own personal finance,” says Bryce Roth, CitizensFirst’s director of cooperative outreach.
Next Gen Outreach offers effective financial education strategies to reach younger members and is geared toward community engagement, promoting the spirit of cooperatives.
Chatter Yak!—a marketing and advertising cooperative for credit unions—facilitates the program, providing a custom curriculum, website services, and an advisory board. Roth is a co-founder of Chatter Yak!
CitizensFirst introduced Next Gen Outreach in 2013 to attract younger members, educate young adults on financial issues, and create community service opportunities. The credit union has increased membership among individuals under 35 years old by 6% each of the last two years.
