Those in Washington, D.C., can certainly enhance their GAC experiences by tweeting and following credit union leaders during the event, but anyone can follow along if they keep an eye on CUNA's social media presence.
To get a real taste for the conference, the following Twitter accounts are must-follows:
@CUNA; @CUNAAdvocacy; @Nussle; @NewsNowLiveWire; and @CUMagazine.
Further, those who want to participate on Twitter can use the following conference-specific hashtags, which will guarantee the most possible exposure for the tweet.
The first three hashtags are expected to be used the most.
CUNA, which plans to tweet every few minutes between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. (ET) during the conference, will capture every aspect of GAC on social media, including what's going on back stage before and during general sessions.
Jim Nussle, CUNA president/CEO, also helped create some excitement for the event by using the #GACbootcamp hashtag to share his own preparations for #CUNAGAC.
The social media strategy this year also will incorporate Instagram. Follow CUNA on Instagram at @CUNApics.
CUNA also launched the @AmericasCUs handle prior to GAC to help promote the issues facing credit unions and credit union members nationwide. CUNA will use @AmericasCUs to promote the Creating Credit Union Awareness event on Capitol Hill Wednesday.
Prior to the conference, CUNA ramped up GAC awareness by sharing information about events such as the Ed Filene talk, which is new this year, keynote speakers Arianna Huffington and former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, social events, breakout sessions, trainings and meetings.
