The Cornerstone Credit Union League serves credit unions in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Huffman has 32 years of experience working with the Texas Legislature and with the Texas Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.
"Jeff has long been 'our man' in Austin," said Dick Ensweiler, CEO of the Cornerstone Credit Union League. "His commitment to credit unions is bar none, and his working knowledge of legislative and regulatory issues in Texas is unparalleled. He knows the players, and he knows the Capitol and its workings, which puts him in an optimum position for leading a successful TCUA advocacy office."
As president of TCUA, Huffman continues to be responsible for lobbying, developing legislative strategy and political involvement programs, and presenting the credit union message to the Texas Legislature and the Texas Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.
Huffman joined the Texas Credit Union League in 1982 as a credit union consultant. Since 1984, Huffman has been the primary legislative contact and lobbyist for the trade association.
The league also announced that Jim Phelps has been promoted to senior vice president. Phelps, who started with the Texas Credit Union League in 2004, will oversee the operations of Cornerstone's legislative advocacy divisions: the Arkansas Credit Union Association, the Oklahoma Credit Union Association and the Texas Credit Union Association.
"He has demonstrated his commitment to credit union advocacy and has proven his ability to lead, having served as the interim leader of the advocacy team over the past seven months," Ensweiler said. "Jim has been the fuel in a smooth-running advocacy engine since we formed Cornerstone 16 months ago."
Phelps is responsible for managing the league's chapter program, and he is the main architect of the successful CU: ROAR (Credit Unions: Ready, Organize, Activate, and Respond) grassroots advocacy program.
