LIVONIA, Mich. (3/18/15)--The Michigan Credit Union League recognized two individuals serving the credit union movement on Capitol Hill with awards recently.
First, the league honored U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga (R) with its Federal Legislator of the Year award for his support on key credit union policy issues, including his work to preserve the credit union not-for-profit tax status in Michigan (Monitor March 17).
In acceptance, Huizenga said he'd continue to fight to retain that status moving forward, the Monitor reported.
The league also honored Eric Feldman, chief of staff for Sen. Gary Peters (D), with the Federal Staffer of the Year award.
Feldman became chief of staff in January 2009 during Peters' term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The league said that Feldman, who oversees Peters' legislative and constituent relations work, regularly reaches out about credit union issues and has always been an ally during visits to Capitol Hill.
