MADISON, Wis. (1/21/15)--A member of Red Canoe CU, Longview, Wash., with $599 million in assets, is the winner of this year's Googolplex $1,000 grand prize photo contest, the Credit Union National Association announced this week.
A photo of Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is the winning entry for this year's Googolplex photo contest. It was taken by Micah, 16, a member of Red Canoe CU, Longview, Wash. (CUNA Photo)
The winning photo of Idaho's Lake Coeur d'Alene, taken by 16-year-old Red Canoe member Micah, received more than 12,000 votes online.
"I plan on saving most of the money won from the contest," said Micah. "I strongly believe in being responsible with and in saving money. By saving now, I hope to help myself in the future."
CUNA's youth member education program Googolplex comprises three customizable microsites for elementary, middle and high school students. The high school site, called C-Note, offers a series of $100 photo contests that culminates in the $1,000 grand prize contest.
The contests, which are hosted on the branded microsites, drive traffic to individual credit unions' websites, CUNA said.
Micah submitted his photo entry through Red Canoe, which takes advantage of each of the three levels of microsites by incorporating them into unique accounts and financial education programs offered by the credit union.
