WASHINGTON (12/2/14)--Registration for the lottery for the 2015 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk is now open, and will close Dec. 12.
The race, scheduled for April 12 next year in Washington, D.C., raises money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Next year's race is open to 15,000 participants.
This year's race saw a record number of members of Congress become honorary race chairs of the event, with all 50 states represented. Nearly $500,000 was raised last year on Credit Union Miracle Day, the day on which a family of races, including the Cherry Blossom run, were held to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
Each registrant will be notified via email Dec. 16 if they were accepted into the race. The results of the lottery also will be posted on www.cherryblossom.org.
Participants also can enter in groups, up to 10 people, to allow families and other groups to earn entry together. Groups will not have any statistical advantage of being accepted into the race, however.
Individuals can bypass the lottery by signing up as charity race entry participants, which requires $500 in raised funds for Credit Unions for Kids. This will be the 14th year running that credit unions have sponsored the event, which has raised more than $6.5 million in total.
Volunteers from the 2014 race should already have received guaranteed entries.
