LYNCHBURG, Va. (11/4/14)--The charitable arm of the Virginia Credit Union League has chosen a network of food banks for its charity-of-choice next year.
The league announced Thursday that the Credit Unions Care Foundation of Virginia will encourage member credit unions to donate time, money and goods in 2015 to the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.
It also said that the foundation's Community Involvement Committee will raise money, collect food and volunteer at seven food banks throughout Virginia.
"Credit unions have long supported Virginia's food banks and local food pantries and we look forward to deepening that relationship," said David Miles, chief operating officer of the foundation. "We recognize that our local food banks face significant challenges in fighting hunger in our local communities, as families continue to struggle in today's economy."
The foundation has raised in excess of $41,000 for food banks throughout the past five years. It also raised more than $2 million over 12 years for its previous charity-of-choice, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
The Federation of Virginia Food banks last year serviced 1 million individuals through 1,900 member agencies.
