MADISON, Wis. (5/13/15)--CUNA will call on an old friend to continue driving excellence in leadership within the credit union movement.

The trade association announced Tuesday it will again partner with Steve Farber, leadership expert and keynote speaker at last year’s America’s Credit Union Conference, to put on this year’s CUNA Leadership Institute Dec. 7-10 in San Diego.

“CUNA Leadership Institute focuses on the uniquely specific needs and challenges of the credit union leader,” said Marlo Foltz, CUNA vice president of blended learning. “Discovering their own values-based leadership style and entrepreneurial approach provides credit union leaders the knowledge and tools to guide their credit unions to increased innovation, preparedness and growth.”

The institute will help attendees rethink credit union leadership by enhancing skillsets and developing tools they can use to positively affect their institutions.

Attendees will participate in interactive scenario planning and self-assessment and skill development activities, and also explore best practices in leadership based on their work style and specific to the credit union movement.

The five components of this year’s institute include:

  • WorkPlace Big Five: The Style of Leadership;
  • Extreme Leadership;
  • The Credit Union Learning Map;
  • Scenario Planning; and
  • Big Data.

“The Extreme Leadership Workshop was exceptional,” said Julie Binversie, vice president of member relations, Premier Financial CU, New Holstein, Wis. “I left with a refreshed outlook on credit union leadership. In our credit union, we are using what I have learned every day.”
