ROME, FlagGa. (7/13/15)--Before the Fourth of July, Coosa Valley CU replaced more than 40 torn or faded American flags that were on display throughout northwest Georgia. It started with an initial donation of 19 flags to the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority. The Rome, Ga.-based credit union was tipped to flags in need of replacement by members through email and Facebook. “We see this as another positive way to impact northwest Georgia for our members,” said Robert Smyth, assistant vice president of marketing and development.  Worn flags were disposed of properly through a local veterans group associated with the Exchange Club of Rome (Coosa Valley CU Photo) ...

BEAVERTON, Ore. (7/13/15)--For the third consecutive year, Clackamas FCU, Milwaukie, Ore., has donated $10,000 to the Mount Hood Search and Rescue Council (Anthem July 6). The funds will go toward the purchase of a specialized gas monitor that will be used to check fumaroles--naturally occurring volcanic vents--for noxious gases. The monitor will help ensure the safety of responders conducting cave rescues on Mount Hood. The donations also will help cover shelter lighting and equipment for the K-9 unit. “Because of Clackamas Federal Credit Union’s incredible support over the years, we have been able to purchase equipment that we have only dreamed of,” said Sherri Magdlen, the council’s director of development ...

DALLAS, HeroTexas (7/13/15)--Southwest Airlines FCU, Dallas, recently asked its members to share what their military heroes mean to them through the “Highlight Your Hero” campaign (Leaguer July 10) Tim Jenkins, a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, left, was nominated by his wife, Landra. “He is a constant reminder of standing tall throughout our challenges of being apart during military service,” Landra wrote in her nomination. “He is my hero that teaches me every day to finish strong with the mission!” Jenkins received a $500 gift card along with the recognition (Southwest Airlines FCU Photo) ...
