NEW YORK Municipal(7/16/15)--Municipal CU President/CEO Kam Wong, center, recently welcomed a dozen representatives from six Japanese bank cooperatives to the New York-based credit union’s corporate headquarters. The group, which hailed from the Kanto region of Japan near Tokyo, discussed lending practices, branding strategies, the credit union difference, and employee training and education. The cooperative banks are similar to credit unions in that they are member-owned institutions that distribute profits to members and help develop their local communities. Yoshihiro Homma, managing director of Yokohama Shinkin Bank, one of the largest cooperative financial institutions in Japan, was among the delegates. “Meetings and discussions such as this one help leaders of not-for-profit financial institutions share ideas and improve the ways we operate, and serve our members in the best way we can,” Wong said (Municipal Credit Union Photo) Click image to enlarge ...

FISHERS, Ind. (7/16/15)--John Jeter, the first full-time manager/CEO of FORUM CU, died July 13. He was 83. Jeter led the Fishers, Ind.-based credit union from 1965 to 1998, increasing the membership to more than 70,000 from 2,000. He worked with the Indiana Credit Union League and Indiana Corporate CU. Jeter was inducted into the Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame in 2000.
