Mobile App Gives Members Added Control of Their Cards

App allows members to control when and how cards are used.

A new mobile app gives members the power to control when and how their credit, debit, or ATM cards are used.

America First Credit Union in Riverdale, Utah, has rolled out “Card Guard,” a security tool that gives members another layer of protection from thieves trying to steal financial data.

“America First is always looking for best-in-class technology for our members, and Card Guard was no different,” says Brice Mindrum, manager of the mobile services department for the $6.7 billion asset credit union. “We knew that our technology-oriented members would love the control and alerting features.”

Card Guard allows America First’s 220,000 mobile banking users to:

  • Set geographic boundaries, using a smartphone or map, that establish where the member can use the card;
  • Choose the type of transactions or merchants where transactions can take place;
  • Set dollar limits for transactions; and
  • Turn the card’s purchasing capabilities on or off.

Members also can choose to receive real-time alerts whenever a transaction hits their card, Mindrum says. “Or they can narrow down alerts to only receive notifications on desired transactions.”

Because Card Guard integrates with America First’s core system, it also works with payment platforms such as Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay, as well as other tools that follow a traditional credit or debit path.
