FARMERS BRANCH, Texas (8/3/15)--The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation has awarded 33 grants totaling $45,750.

The foundation is the charitable arm of the Cornerstone Credit Union League, which serves credit unions in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The foundation’s grants committee, which meets three times a year to approve grants for financial education programs and chapter and professional development, approved the grants during the second funding cycle of 2015.

GreenPath Inc., a nonprofit debt solutions company with locations in Texas, was among the grant recipients. GreenPath is a CUNA Strategic Services strategic alliance provider.

The grants will be used to support four daylong financial wellness events sponsored by four Texas credit unions on site at their select employer groups.

The program will offer confidential on-site certified counselor financial sessions for employees, as well as an opportunity to attend a financial education webinar.

Foundation Grants Manager Emily Moreno said the foundation hopes to expand the program the partnership with GreenPath to include more credit unions in the future. “Credit unions are continually looking for ways to strengthen relationships with (select employee groups) and alternative ways to deliver financial education,” Moreno said. “We feel this program has the potential to provide a true win-win partnership.”

In addition to the grant given to GreenPath, the foundation awarded:

  • Six grants for financial education initiatives;
  • Two chapter grants for leadership training and a community outreach program; and
  • Twenty-four training calendar grants to assist with credit union professional development.

The deadline to submit applications for the last 2015 cycle is Sept. 24.
