2 Texas CUs commit $500K to middle school alliance

August 13, 2015

AUSTIN, Texas (8/13/15)--Two Austin, Texas-based credit unions--A+ FCU and University FCU (UFCU)--have partnered to invest $500,000 in the Central Texas expansion of RAISEup Texas, an E3 Alliance education program.

RAISEup Texas is a schoolwide approach that uses research-validated tools, which measure progress, to help middle school students “learn how to learn.”

RAISEup Texas, a privately funded 3 1/2-year demonstration effort, has already assisted nearly 13,000 students in six Texas school districts.

The new Texas state accountability system contains a distinction available for campuses that demonstrate that they are closing performance gaps across different demographic groups. The Texas Education Agency’s 2014 accountability indicator determined that 75% of RAISEup Texas demonstration schools qualified for the Closing the Performance Gaps distinction, three times the rate of middle schools across the region.

The funding provided by A+FCU and UFCU will allow 16 more Central Texas schools to implement the RAISEup Texas Strategic Instruction Model. During the expansion, more than 28,000 students and 1,100 teachers will benefit from the program.

E3 Alliance is a regional, data-driven education collaborative based in Austin.
