ALEXANDRIA, Va. (9/2/15)--The National Credit Union Administration applied updates to its Credit Union Locator online tool and built a companion site that allows a deeper dig into a federally insured credit union's information.

Announcing the developments Tuesday, the NCUA said the changes to Credit Union Locator include a more attractive design, enhanced credit union search functions and turn-by-turn driving directions for reaching individual credit unions.

Credit unions can be searched by name, address, ZIP code, or charter number. A refined search option allows users to search an area between five and 60 miles of an address. By selecting a specific credit union branch, consumers can view basic information including a web address, phone number and whether the credit union has drive-through access or ATMs available.

The locator's new companion tool, Research a Credit Union, allows users to access more detailed information, such as financial information, insurance status, field of membership information and asset size.

CUNA and the state credit union leagues also have a credit union locator tool with the consumer-facing website, The tool allows individuals to find credit unions nearby, and contains field-of-membership information, and branch locations, as well as more general information on the difference between credit unions and banks and the value of credit union membership, and more.
