SBA offers EMV card migration webinar Sept. 22

September 15, 2015

WASHINGTON (9/15/15)--Financial institutions can get the latest information on payments fraud and EMV card migration at a webinar scheduled for Sept. 22 by the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Federal Reserve.

Katy Jacob and Mary Hughes, payments information consultants with the Minneapolis Federal Reserve will host the webinar.

Topics covered at the webinar include:

  • Payment instruments that are most vulnerable to fraud schemes;
  • Methods and risk management services financial institutions are using to sharpen defenses against fraud attacks;
  • Payment fraud trends; and
  • Fraud-fighting methods and tips to avoid victimization from fraudsters.

In addition, Jacob and Hughes will provide an update on the migration to the EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) payment cards. Starting Oct. 1, liability for card-present fraud will be shifted to entities that are the least EMV-compliance.

The webinar will explain how businesses may be affected by EMV migration, and how it would lead to increased losses from card-not-present fraud.

Registration is currently open for the event, which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (ET).

 The SBA is also hosting a series of weekly disaster preparedness webinars that will take place each Monday in September. Registration for the remaining two is still open.
