ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (10/15/15)--Nusenda CU was named the Most Innovative Community-Based Banking Organization by BAI-Infosys Finacle this week.

The Albuquerque, N.M.-based credit union received the honor at the 2015 Global Banking Innovation Awards, hosted by BAI in Las Vegas.

The award honors financial institutions that create products, invest, and deliver services to meet their community’s most pressing needs.

Nusenda also received the Innovation in Societal and Community Impact Award, which recognizes organizations that have designed or enhanced products and services to meet the needs of consumers with special circumstances.

"Nusenda CU strives to make a difference in our communities through unconventional partnerships and improved access to much-needed products and services,” said Terry Laudick, Nusenda president/CEO.

The credit union earned the honors in part because of programs such as Co-Op Capital, a product that extends funding for low-income entrepreneurs, and Powering Success and Parent University, two programs aimed at improving student retention and graduation.

Nusenda also recently formed Nusenda Foundation, a charitable organization that will support the credit union’s philanthropic programs, financial and technical innovations, and educational initiatives.

“Nusenda is deeply committed to the cooperative principles upon which we were founded (and) that support community enrichment and advancement,” Laudick said. “The establishment of the Nusenda Foundation affirms the credit union’s support for the community and intent to serve all New Mexicans. From our investment in education to our innovative programs that serve students, parents and local businesses, we work to do well so that we can do good.”
