FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (10/19/15)--Fort Lauderdale-based Tropical Financial CU honored Miami-Dade Police Officer Elliott Scholes Thursday as its first League of Financial Goodness Local Hero (Sun Sentinel Oct. 15). Tropical Financial presented Scholes with $2,500 in cash and a $1,000 donation to his favorite charity, Ronald McDonald House Miami. Scholes, 51, a police officer for 26 years, was chosen from 450 nominations in the tri-county area for his charity work. He has organized and cooked monthly dinners for children and their families at Ronald McDonald House Miami for eight years. He also has rescued and fostered more than 35 dogs the past five years. HARAHAN, La. (10/19/15)--Mignhon Tourne, president/CEO of ASI FCU and A Shared Initiative Inc. (ASII), will step down from the position in 2016. She served nine years as president/CEO and 20 years on the board of the community development credit union (CDCU), based in Harahan, La. She has 38 years’ experience in the financial and insurance services industries. During her tenure, the credit union grew $315 million in assets from $10 million, and launched ASII as a nonprofit community development center. Tourne is on the board of the National Federation of CDCUs and received its Annie Vamper Helping Hands Award in 2010.  She will remain at the helm until a successor is chosen and stay on as a consultant during the leadership transition as well as assist with continuing community and business development work …
