ICU Day means donations, reg. meetings for CUNA Councils

WASHINGTON (10/22/15)--In honor of International Credit Union Day last week, CUNA Councils and the Council Forum presented $5,000 donations each to Credit Union House, the World Council of Credit Unions and the National Credit Union Foundation.

The occasion also marked the semiannual meeting of the 16-member Council Forum, which is made up of the six CUNA Councils’ executive committee chairs and vice chairs, in addition to two emeritus members. 

The Council Forum meetings allow representatives to come together to discuss collaborative council projects and initiatives. Last week’s meeting also presented a valuable opportunity for committee members to meet with regulators from the National Credit Union Administration and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The group met with Elizabeth Ellis, CFPB deputy assistant director of the Office of Financial Institutions and Business Liaison. The forum discussed the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, the interaction between the CFPB and other regulatory agencies, regulatory relief and pre-paid cards, among other topics.

Forum members also met with Tim Segerson, NCUA deputy director of the Office of Examination and Insurance, and Buddy Gill, NCUA strategic communications and external relations adviser, to discuss concerns centering on issues the NCUA plans to take up over the next year.

Issues included member business lending, regulatory relief, cybersecurity, the corporate stabilization refund, examination issues and risk-based capital.

Sue McCue, Credit Union House director; Peter Graves, World Council senior vice president of technical services; and Gigi Hyland, foundation executive director, accepted the donations made by the councils and the forum on behalf of their organizations.

The donations were presented by Heather Moshier, council forum chair and executive vice president of technology, San Diego County CU; Jason Osterhage, council forum vice chair and senior vice president of lending, Alliant CU, Chicago; and Michelle Hunter, council forum second vice chair and senior vice president of marketing, Credit Union of Southern California, Anaheim, Calif.
