TAMPA, SuncoastVolunteerFla. (10/27/15)--On Oct. 17, Suncoast CU committed a full day of volunteerism across the 17 counties that the Tampa, Fla.-based credit union serves. More than 851 employees, family members and friends volunteered a total of 1,140 hours--valued at $24,635.40--during the second annual “Pay It Forward Day.” “Taking the time on a Saturday to be out in our communities was a reminder of the tremendous power of giving,” said Susan Johnson, Suncoast chief operating officer. Suncoast also held a social media contest for employees who used the hashtag #SuncoastGivesBack. Participants were entered into a drawing to win $500 for the nonprofit of their choice. Winning charities were the American Cancer Society, Bethel Temple Assembly of God and Abuse Counseling and Treatment Inc. SOMERVILLE, Mass. (10/27/15)--John Feitor, board member of Naveo CU, Somerville, Mass., received the 2015 Credit Union Hero award from The Warren Group and Banker & Tradesman. FARMERS BRANCH, Texas (10/27/15)--Perry Beaver, longtime board member for River Valley Community FCU, Camden, Ark., died Oct. 20. He was 86. Beaver served on the credit union's board of directors and a number of committees for more than 54 years, according to the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s newsletter (Leaguer Oct. 26).
