Still time to register for CUNA’s BSA hot-topics conference

November 4, 2015

WASHINGTON (11/4/15)--Along with the latest updates from federal agencies concerning Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) compliance, attendees at the CUNA BSA Conference will learn firsthand why compliance is so important.

Registration is still open for the conference, which is Nov. 15-18 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and held in partnership with the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors.

The conference will feature a session hosted by Timea Nagy, a human-trafficking survivor. Nagy founded Walk With Me, a nonprofit organization that assists human-trafficking victims, and her story will show how financial institution diligence can help law enforcement detect illegal activities.

Her speech will be followed by a Verafin presentation that will show what credit unions can look for when it comes to human-trafficking red flags, including funnel accounts and payments to smugglers.

The conference will also feature presentations from CUNA compliance staff, regulators, cybersecurity experts and law enforcement personnel. Topics of discussion will include international developments in anti-money laundering; financial services and the legal marijuana industry, virtual currencies; the cyber black market and much more.

Breakout sessions will examine anti-money laundering strategies for small institutions; cybersecurity and the BSA; shared branching; remote deposit capture and a look at cash-intensive businesses.

Representatives from the National Credit Union Administration, World Council of Credit Unions, Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, Office of Foreign Assets Control and the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network will be presenting.
