WASHINGTONGreg Michlig (11/17/15)-- CUNA announced that Greg Michlig, president/CEO of the New Jersey Credit Union League (NJCUL), has been named deputy chief engagement officer. “I am excited to have someone of Greg’s extraordinary talent and ability join our 1CUNA team to oversee the development and growth CUNA’s membership strategy,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “This work is important as we grow and change to meet the needs of our current and future members.” NJCUL Chair Linda McFadden said, “The league is saddened to lose Greg. The programs and cost savings measures he implemented will continue for years to come. We wish him well and look forward to seeing his continued efforts in the credit union industry.” CUNA’s Chief Engagement Officer Susan Newton said that Michlig will lead a variety of critical credit union affiliation and membership initiatives. “Greg will play a key leadership role in engaging credit union system business partners and other organizations to enlist their involvement and support in CUNA’s mission and the credit union system vision,” said Newton. MADISON, Wis. (11/17/15)--Friday is the deadline to apply for Crash the GAC, the program that brings young credit union professionals to Washington, D.C., to experience the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC). PHILADELPHIA Books(11/17/15)--American Heritage FCU members and employees donated more than 6,380 new books to hospitals, community centers and special care facilities in the Philadelphia area. This is the sixth year for the Philadelphia-based credit union’s “Books for Kids” program. Credit union members become “Book Buddies” with a $3 donation, garnering them a plaque with their name inside each donated book. A special donation of 5,330 books was given to the “Reach Out and Read” program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (American Heritage FCU Photo) ...

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (11/17/15)--The Credit Union Association of New Mexico (CUANM) is accepting applications for scholarships from the New Mexico Credit Union Education Foundation. Recipients will receive an amount determined by the foundation board for the 2016-2017 school year. In 2015, 130 students in New Mexico received $1,000 each for the 2015-2016 school year--a total of $130,000. Funds for the scholarship are provided by CUANM member credit unions that turn over funds from dormant accounts to the foundation. CUANM administers the scholarship program ...

HARRISBURG, Pa. (11/17/15)--The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association reported John Sharp, former CEO of Horizon FCU, died Nov. 13. (Life is a Highway Nov. 16). He was 70. Sharp retired from the Williamsport, Pa.-based credit union in 2011, overseeing the transition of the credit union from an office in the basement of Williamsport Hospital to three offices (News Now May 5, 2011).
