ACA adds complexity to HR role: HR/OD Council white paper
MADISON, Wis. (12/17/15)--A new white paper from the CUNA HR & Organizational Development Council, “ACA 2.0: The Moving Target,” examines the responsibilities credit unions, particularly human resource (HR) departments, must take on in meeting the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The white paper includes:
- Recent and upcoming additions to ACA rules;
- Insights from HR professionals from a range of different-sized credit unions about how they implement health care reforms;
- Suggestions for how the credit unions remain as cost effective as possible; and
- Recommendations for maintaining a benefits program that supports recruitment and retention even as insurance costs continue to rise.
The paper also includes several case studies, including one that examines Lake Michigan CU, Grand Rapids, Mich. With more than 100 employees, Lake Michigan CU started planning early and has worked hard to adapt to the many changes in the health care law along the way, according to Lake Michigan CU Benefits Manager Julie Ledsworth.
“From the launch of health care reform, we’ve been developing our strategy and have been proactive about keeping pace with the changes, but it has always been a moving target,” Ledsworth said.
Keeping pace with ACA implementation has been “a long intense process,” Ledsworth said. “We have a lot of partners to help educate us. We’ve done our due diligence, we’ve relied on an attorney to help review the requirements, and our agent supplies us with regular health reform updates.”
