WESTBROOK, Maine (1/19/16)--Former Olympic champion Mark Spitz will keynote the Maine Credit Union League’s annual hunger-relief campaign results celebration Feb. 9. At the luncheon, the final results of the 2015 Campaign for Ending Hunger will be revealed. Spitz, who won a then-record seven gold medals for swimming in the 1972 Olympics, is involved with initiatives to end hunger and homelessness. “We look forward to hearing from him, and have him share his insight and thoughts on the importance of ending hunger," said John Murphy, Maine league president (Weekly Update Jan. 15). While the total amount raised for the 2015 Maine CUs' Campaign for Ending Hunger will not be revealed publicly until the luncheon, it is known that the results will surpass the $6 million milestone in funds raised since it began in 1990 …

JACKSON, Mich. (1/19/16)--CP FCU, Jackson, Mich., honored the five-year anniversary of its first Wish Upon A Home Giveaway by celebrating with 2010 winner Tina Greer. She was awarded the home on Sept. 3, 2010, under a forgivable mortgage agreement, which required the resident to live in the home for five years before owning the home free and clear. Greer attended the CP FCU staff meeting Jan. 14 during which President/CEO John Crist announced her as the home’s official owner. “Announcing Tina’s name five years ago was one of the most memorable events I have ever been a part of,” Crist said. “I will never forget her face, and the faces of her children, when their name was called. Awarding a home to a family not only changed the Greer’s lives, but it made an impact of our lives as well. We are reminded of why credit unions exist, and that is to use our resources to help people” …
