S.D. plates put CU awareness on the road

PIERRE, S.D. (2/2/16)--South Dakota credit unions recently picked up a new way to raise awareness for the credit union movement: In bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The state’s Motor Vehicle Division allows nonprofits to purchase organization decals that can be placed on license plates. Because the South Dakota Credit Union League--prior to consolidating into the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD)--registered with the state for the program, CUAD can now offer credit unions and their members America’s Credit Unions license plate decals (The Memo Jan. 25).

A member of Aberdeen (S.D.) FCU became the first individual to place the credit union decal on a license plate last month.

“We are proud to see our members sharing in the cooperative spirit and carrying out the ‘People Helping People’ philosophy,” said Abby Kroupa, Aberdeen business development director (The Memo).

Interested credit unions can make a direct request with CUAD, which suggests making a $25 donation to the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas for each set of two decals.

The North Dakota Motor Vehicle Division does not offer the program.
