Mexican consulates, federation host fin. ed. webinar

February 5, 2016

NEW YORK (2/5/16)--The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions is inviting Juntos Avanzamos-designated credit unions to attend a webinar next week that will facilitate collaboration between the credit unions and their local Mexican consulates.

Scheduled for Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. (CT), the webinar coincides with Semana de Educación Financiera, or Financial Education Week, which is led by the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores through the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior in partnership with Mexican government agencies and consulates in the United States and Canada (Leaguer Feb. 3).

The week seeks to facilitate a connection between financial institutions that are willing to meet the needs of the Mexican population with the individuals in need of their services, which is why Juntos Avanzamos credit unions are a natural fit, the federation said in a press release. Semana de Educación Financiera also seeks to educate the Mexican community about the importance of inclusion in the traditional financial system.

The speakers for the webinar include:

  • Sofia Orozco Aguirre, director for economic/financial affairs for the Mexican Global Network of Mexican highly qualified expats (Red Global MX). Aguirre has spent 25 years in the field developing programs that aim to empower Mexican immigrant communities; and
  • Julián Escutia Rodrigue, who is head of the consular coordination and Hispanic affairs section of the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C.
