Nussle offers three key insights about advocacy
We need to continue to sell the CU difference, CUNA CEO says.
Last year at this time, CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle was finishing his first Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC)—an experience he likened to a roller coaster ride.
But even though the GAC is winding down, it doesn’t mean credit union leaders should ease up on advocacy, Nussle said.
“There are 51 weeks left in the year for advocacy,” he said. “We need to continue to sell the credit union difference.”
Nussle offered three key insights about advocacy:
1. Don’t think what credit unions do sells itself. “Take a moment every day to let people know about the credit union difference. It makes a difference to talk about the credit union difference.”
2. Realize that advocacy is everyone’s job. Some influential organizations, such as the National Rifle Association, have advocacy armies, he said. “That’s what we’re creating. We need to work together on this.”
3. Make it fun. “Credit unions are fun—and we should have fun doing what we do.”
