WASHINGTON (2/29/16)--The Cooperative Credit Union Association for the credit unions of Rhode Island has earned a Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) award for its 2015 CULAC fundraising efforts. The association was honored with a Capitol Circle award, which is given to leagues that raise 100% or more of their CULAC goal the prior year. BIRMINGHAM, Ala., and TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (2/29/16)--The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) honored U.S. Reps. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) and Bill Posey (R-Fla.) as its 2015 Federal Lawmakers of the Year. The representatives received the awards during Feb. 24 visits to their offices as part of the Credit Union National Association’s Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. “Reps. Brooks and Posey have shown that they are willing to remove regulatory barriers for credit unions,” said Patrick La Pine, LSCU president/CEO. “They understand that these regulatory barriers are causing credit unions to focus more on compliance and less time on helping their membership. We thank Rep. CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (2/29/16)--Fort Campbell FCU, Clarksville, Tenn., changed its name to Fortera CU, effective today. In researching a potential change, the credit union’s leadership team found that the Fort Campbell name created confusion with potential members who were uncertain if they could join if they were not affiliated with Fort Campbell Military Base. “We are open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in any of our five county service areas and we believe our name should better reflect all those we currently serve, as well as those we have the opportunity to serve,” said President/CEO Tom Kane.
