CUNA sets inaugural Fair Lending Workshop for Aug.
MADISON, Wis., (3/17/16)--Comprehensive and timely information on fair lending regulations will be the focus of the inaugural Fair Lending Workshop from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
Experts at the workshop, set for Aug. 15-16 in Denver, will include attorneys, compliance experts from PolicyWorks and a former employee of the National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) Office of Consumer Protection.
Attendees will take part in experiential learning that incorporates hands-on exercises, discussions and case-study examinations.
“In recent years, NCUA has placed a greater emphasis on fair lending compliance, so mastery of the regulatory requirements is absolutely critical,” said Tracy Blaske, CUNA compliance education director. “This new workshop will help lending, auditing and compliance professionals ensure that their fair lending procedures meet today’s standards.”
“Examiners were very thorough in their recent fair lending exam, and they requested documents we would never have guessed they would ask for,” said Kris Watkins, compliance/security officer, Capital Educators FCU, Meridian, Idaho. “I look forward to this workshop as an opportunity to better prepare for future fair lending examinations."
Topics will include:
- Requirements contained in NCUA’s Fair Lending Guide;
- Best practices for compliance;
- Use of the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act loan application register to assess fair lending compliance; and
- Examination prep and examiner expectations.
