CUNA engaged w/ TCPA, flood hearings this week

June 12, 2017

Both chambers of Congress are in Washington, D.C. this week, which means CUNA is engaged with hearings and meetings throughout the week. Scheduled hearings include a look at the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), flood insurance and more.

Today, the House Appropriations subcommittee on financial services and general government committee met for a budget hearing on the Department of the Treasury.

On Tuesday, the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution and civil justice will conduct a hearing titled “Lawsuit Abuse and the TCPA,” starting at 2 p.m. (ET). CUNA will submit a letter for the record of this hearing, outlining credit union concerns with the TCPA.

CUNA has been actively outlining concerns to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Congress that credit unions are being subject to TCPA related class action litigation based on technical violations that cause little or no actual harm to consumers.

Additional information on the hearing can be found on CUNA’s Removing Barriers Blog.

Also scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. (ET), the House Financial Services Committee will begin a markup up of 7 bills relating to modernizing flood insurance.

CUNA sent a letter for the record for a Senate National Flood Insurance Program hearing last week, reiterating its support for the reauthorization of the program.
