Heartland league joins data breach lawsuit against Equifax
The Heartland Credit Union Association will join the class-action lawsuit against Equifax, it announced Tuesday. CUNA filed its lawsuit in October, in response to a data breach that exposed information of as many as 145 million consumers.
“We’re fighting data breaches and cyberattack issues on multiple fronts, and this lawsuit is part of a larger effort to help protect private consumer information,” said Brad Douglas president/CEO of the Heartland Credit Union Association. “We need stricter regulation to ensure changes to data security, so we’re taking action and helping lead this charge.”
A judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia announced in December all suits against Equifax were consolidated into one suit, which will be heard there.
Other leagues that have announced their participation in suits against Equifax include Virginia, Wisconsin, Vermont, Minnesota, Illinois, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates, Nebraska and the Mountain West Credit Union Association.
