Iowa League names Murray Williams CEO

May 14, 2018

The Iowa Credit Union League has named Murray Williams as its next CEO, it announced Monday. Williams is the organization’s current chief operating officer, and has been with the league for more than 20 years.

"CUNA congratulates Murray on his appointment to lead the Iowa Credit Union League, and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with the league advocating on behalf of America's, and Iowa's, credit unions together as part of the CUNA/league system," said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. "Leagues are our boots on the ground in the states, and as recent events have shown, state-level advocacy is a major part of ensuring credit unions are able to continue to serve their members in the most effective way possible."

Williams said the organization will continue to provide leading financial services to help credit unions grow and fulfill their social mission, while developing innovative solutions to ensure the health and vitality of the movement.

“The future for credit unions is tremendously bright. This legislative session, Iowans clearly stated their desire for financial choice. Iowa credit unions provide that needed alternative to for-profit banks,” Williams said. “Like credit unions, our mission at ICUL is to improve the financial lives of consumers and we are committed to delivering on that promise for generations to come.”

Williams also acknowledged the legacy of current CEO Pat Jury, who served as CUNA’s board chair from 2017 to 2018.

“Pat has been an exceedingly gracious boss, mentor and friend over the past 20 years. He is a trailblazer in the credit union industry, not only in Iowa, but nationally,” Williams said. “I am honored to be named as his successor and look forward to playing a larger role in the future of Iowa’s credit unions.”

Williams also serves as COO of the Iowa Credit Union League’s holding company, Affiliates Management Company. He has also served on the CUNA Strategic Services board.
