PODCAST: Ram Charan on why ‘talent wins’

‘Talent is at the center,’ management guru says.

October 4, 2018

Ram Charan’s introduction to business came from working in his family’s shoe shop in Northern India.

While he’s now a sought-after consultant for some of the world’s largest companies, Charan says the basics of business are the same for all organizations.

“All of these billionaires I work for are experts of basic business and money-making,” says Charan, an author of more than 25 books on all facets of business leadership. “The basics are the same whether you’re a street vendor or a multinational company. Just the scope, the speed, the complexity, and the outcomes are different.”

In his latest book, “Talent Wins,” Charan says succeeding in business today requires companies to deploy talent in new ways. Doing so will allow them to seize new opportunities and adapt to constant change.

“Talent is at the center,” he says. “In this era of technological change, the real issue is, do we have raw talent? Is there a shortage? Is the talent we have obsolete? Talent creates value.”

Charan was a keynote speaker at the 2018 CUNA CEO Council Conference in Irving, Texas.
