CUNA webinar on cybersecurity exercises available for free
A webinar hosted by CUNA, the Financial Services Information and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) and the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council (FSSCC) on cyber exercises is now available for free to CUNA members. The organizations hosted the webinar to discuss easy and effective ways credit unions can plan to respond to cyber incidents.
The speakers highlighted that the first rule in achieving success with cyber-incidents is to have a documented response plan that includes detailed procedures for how to respond.
The second rule is to practice that plan to build “muscle memory” around what actions are taken when the alarms start sounding and the sirens are blaring and to identify any gaps in the plan before a crisis.
The webinar discussed how knowing how to conduct a cyber-exercise and what resources are available to help practice the plan can be difficult for some credit unions.
Smaller credit unions may not have a plan or know where to start practicing; larger credit unions may have the plan but have a wide range of staff they need to practice the plan with, speakers noted.
FS-ISAC cyber-exercises are designed as “proactive steps to practice plans, find and close gaps, better protect systems and establish information sharing communities,” according to the organization.
The webinar also provided information to:
- Help credit unions know how to exercise their plan;
- Share what resources are available and how to find them; and
- Explore tips and tricks to make practicing incident response easy and effective.
