Alaska CUs closed in the wake of earthquake

Credit union branches in the Anchorage, Alaska area have been closed in the wake of an earthquakes that struck the region Friday morning.  

Credit Union 1 closed branches in Anchorage, Eagle River, Soldotna and Kodiak due to the earthquake, according to the credit union’s website.  

“Due to an earthquake in Southcentral Alaska many branches in Alaska will be closed until their safety has been verified,” Alaska USA FCU reported on its website. “Updates will be provided as available. “Access to your account is not impacted. 

The Associated Press reported that back-to-back earthquakes measuring 7.0 and 5.8 rocked buildings and shattered roads Friday morning in Anchorage, sending people running into the streets and briefly triggering a warning to residents in to flee to higher ground for fear of a tsunami. 

The tsunami warning was lifted without incident a short time later. There were no immediate reports of any deaths or serious injuries.
