CUs, leagues from N.J., Dakotas Hike the Hill in Washington, D.C.

December 14, 2018

Credit unions and leagues from New Jersey and the Dakotas were in Washington, D.C. this week as part of continuing CUNA/league advocacy efforts into the new Congress. Credit union leaders visited with their elected officials to discuss several issues of interest to credit unions and their members.

“Visiting Capitol Hill in December is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with our elected representatives and their staff. The pace is often a bit slower, which allows for more extensive exploration of credit union issues,” said David Frankil, president/CEO of the New Jersey Credit Union League. “This year was no exception, with follow-up on everything from the New Jersey delegation NCUA letter on taxi medallions to American with Disabilities Act compliance and data breaches.

“We also had the opportunity to visit with newly-elected members of the New Jersey delegation, and in particular two members of our Hike-the-Hill team were able to visit with Congresswoman-elect Mikie Sherrill at her appreciation event,” he added.

New Jersey’s Congressional delegation will have four new members in the 116th Congress.

Representatives from the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas were also in town this week and attended several events.

“Our primary focus in D.C. was to meet with Senator-elect Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) and Senator John Thune (R-N.D.),” said Jeff Olson, president/CEO of the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas.
