Credit unions support America Saves Week

Consumer Federation of America campaign encourages people to “take the pledge” to save money.

Credit unions are among the diverse nonprofit, government, academic, and business groups to encourage and support Americans’ efforts to save during America Saves Week, Feb. 25-March 2.

Held in conjunction with Military Saves Week, America Saves Week is a national opportunity for organizations to work together within their communities to transform the lives of millions of Americans.

America Saves Week encourages people to “take the pledge” to save money, identify a savings goal such as college tuition or a car, and create a plan to reach the goal. Military Saves Week promotes the same plan for active duty U.S. servicemembers who have a unique set of financial challenges.

“America Saves Week and Military Saves Week promote savings, which is a core credit union value,” said Ryan Donovan, CUNA Chief Advocacy Officer. “CUNA encourages credit unions to inspire members of every age to take control of their financial lives. America Saves Week and Military Saves Week are also a great way for credit unions to build momentum for National Credit Union Youth Month in April.”

More than 1,500 participating organizations offer numerous activities and services to encourage people to start or increase their saving, including incentivized savings accounts, the use of direct deposit and split deposits to save automatically, financial counseling, and social media encouragement.

Consumer Federation of America (CFA) manages the campaign. CFA is comprised of more than 270 consumer education, advocacy, and cooperative organizations dedicated to advancing consumer interests.

April is National Credit Union Youth Month, sponsored by CUNA. CUNA will also sponsor the annual National Youth Saving Challenge during April.

The challenge encourages young credit union members to save as much money as possible.
