Attitude is everything
‘There are no small moments for rock star performers.’
Your ability to control or determine your attitude will decide your ultimate success, says Mark Schulman, drummer for P!nk and keynote speaker at the 2019 CUNA Finance Council Conference in New York City.
“Your attitude is enormously powerful,” he says. “It can affect others and infect others. We can’t always control what happens to us, but we all have the power to control how we react to what happens to us. How we respond to adversity determines the future of our business and our relationships with clients.”
Whether you’re a rock star or a credit union finance leader, everything you do is a performance, Schulman says. “Rock stars know every performance is a representation of not just what you do, it’s who you are. The details are everything. It’s all about having the best time with each performance. The better time you have with your performance, the better you’ll do.”
He encouraged attendees to consider ABC in every interaction: Attitude, behaviors, and consequences.
“When you shift your attitude, you can drive your behaviors and consequences,” says Schulman, the self-proclaimed “attitude dude.”
“When you do an attitude shift, you cut off all other possibilities,” he says. “That’s empowering. Every note I play matters. There are no small moments for rock star performers. I attach purpose to every note.
“Look at what you do as a performance and take this rock star attitude with you.”
