CUNA, Foundation meet to talk financial well-being barriers

July 30, 2020

CUNA and the National Credit Union Foundation held a meeting last week on ways credit unions can foster financial well-being among their members and communities. During the two-day session, credit union leaders from around the country shared their experience serving their communities, including marginalized populations, what barriers exist and how the credit union model is positioned to reach these populations.

CUNA and the Foundation are invested in using the credit union model to improve financial health and financial well-being, or as the Foundation refers to it: what folks do with their money and how they feel about their money.

Participants also acknowledged how the pandemic, and its economic effects, change strategies for reaching different groups and how credit union support of diversity, equity and inclusion is directly tied into financial well-being.

CUNA and the Foundation expect to conduct similar meetings in the coming months, particularly as the effects of the pandemic are felt and credit unions push to play a greater role in the economic recovery.
