CU supporters win Senate, House primaries last week

Credit union-supported candidates across the country were victorious in primary elections last week. Last Tuesday saw primaries in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington, while Tennessee conducted their primary last Thursday, and Hawaii last Saturday.

Candidates are supported by state credit union Leagues and Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA’s federal political action committee.

Credit union-backed Bill Hagerty won Thursday in Tennessee’s Republican Senate primary, defeating challenger Manny Sethi. Hagerty will run in November to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Lamar Alexander (R).

In Kansas, credit union supporter and former Lieutenant Gov. Tracey Mann was the 1st Congressional District Republican primary winner, defeating challenger Bill Clifford with 54% of the vote.

Mann will run against Democrat Kali Barnett in November to fill the seat of current Rep. Roger Marshall (R), who will run for the Senate in November for the sear left open by retiring Sen. Pat Roberts (R).

In Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District, credit union-supported Kai Kahele (D) won Saturday’s primary to run for the seat currently held by Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D), who is not seeking re-election. Kahele will face Republican Joe Akana in November.
