Jerry Barnes

Board member, Freedom First Federal Credit Union

November 9, 2020

From my first days as a green 2nd lieutenant to my day of retirement 36 years later as a member of the senior executive service, I enjoyed credit unions and the Army Corps of Engineers.

In credit unions I served on many committees, as the member of the supervisory committee, and on two credit union boards. I pursued certification as a certified credit union volunteer, which was quite a challenge.

Now in retirement, I still serve Freedom First Federal Credit Union as a board member. I am also the author of two books on combat survivor stories.

My military and credit union service have moved me in several ways. It has allowed me to support my credit union, taught me the benefits of saving, service, and volunteering. With the spirit of volunteering to serve others, I have never grown tired of serving.
