CFPB nominee Rohit Chopra to testify this week

March 1, 2021

Rohit Chopra, President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will appear before the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee this week as part of his nomination process. The Senate will begin consideration this week of the latest COVID-19 relief bill.

Chopra is currently a commissioner with the Federal Trade Commission, previously served as assistant director and student loan ombudsman at the CFPB. While CUNA does not historically tale a position on nominees, it will be engaged with the hearing.

He will testify before the committee, along with Gary Gensler, a nominee for the Securities and Exchange Commission, Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. (ET).

CUNA will also be engaged with a Thursday Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing, "Wall Street vs. Workers: How the Financial System Hurts Workers and Widens the Racial Wealth Gap,” scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. (ET).
