Credit Union Advocacy Aided in Removal of IRS Reporting Proposal

October 28, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 28, 2021
Washington, DC

CUNA, Leagues, and credit unions launched national grassroots effort in opposition to the proposal

Credit Union National Association (CUNA) President/CEO Jim Nussle released the following statement after Congress removed the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reporting proposal from the framework of the reconciliation bill:

“Credit unions and their members made their voices heard loud and clear over these past few months, and the result is a victory for all consumers,” Nussle said. “CUNA, Leagues, and credit unions engaged Congress continuously during this process and showed them how this proposal would have hurt consumers, harmed financial inclusion efforts, and created serious data privacy concerns. This is a clear-cut example of our fierce, bold 360-degree advocacy in action.”

Credit union members and employees from across the country have sent more than 785,000 messages to Congress, pushing back against the administration’s proposal. CUNA and the Leagues called on President Biden and Congressional leadership to withdraw the proposal.

"CUNA, the Leagues, and credit unions use a collaborative approach to advance credit union advocacy. Rather than simply calling the Capitol switchboard, we’re building connections on the Hill to make sure our voice is heard today and trusted tomorrow.”
