CUAC member Michael Levy talks CFPB engagement

November 11, 2021

Travis Credit Union General Counsel Michael Levy spoke with CU Weekly, the weekly e-publication from the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, recently about serving on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Credit Union Advisory Council (CUAC). In the article he discusses what he can “bring to the table” as a CUAC member.

Levy says he is “delighted” new CFPB Director Rohit Chopra and former CFPB Acting Director Dave Uejio have welcomed insight from the credit union community.

“[N]ot all financial institutions are the same,” Levy said. “It is important that the CFPB’s activities contemplate the different relationships credit unions have with their members. Our community-centric purpose sets us apart from the corporate institutions that currently occupy most of the market.”

Levy has served in general and deputy-general legal counsel roles at a number of California state agencies responsible for regulating essential natural resources, public resources, and consumer services. He will serve on the CUAC, which consists entirely of representatives from CUNA member credit unions, through October 2023.
