Donovan highlights bipartisan CU bills in message to Congress

February 15, 2022

Promoting financial well-bring is the mission of America’s credit unions, CUNA Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan wrote to all 535 Congressional offices Tuesday.

“That means finding ways to ensure our members have control over their day-to-day finances, can absorb a financial shock, and have the financial freedom to make choices that lead to an enjoyable life,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, statutory restrictions limit the service that credit unions can provide. Please help us deliver on our mission and advance the communities we serve.”

Donovan asked the members of Congress to support:

  • S. 762, to increase the federal credit union loan maturity limit by five years.
  • H.R. 5189, to raise the maturity limits on loans made by federal credit unions
  • H.R. 2311/S. 1767, to modernize the member expulsion process.
