CrossState’s Conway, Pennsylvania Auditor General talk inflation, financial education

April 27, 2022

CrossState Credit Union Association President/CEO Patrick Conway appeared with Pennsylvania Auditor General Tim DeFoor recently on Pennsylvania Newsmakers, a state politics and public policy talk show, to talk inflation and financial education.

“Inflation hit a 40-year high in March. Everything is more expensive. It’s hitting the household budget,” said Conway.

Conway added that there is no better time for families to discuss budgeting, and financial education given the state of the economy.

“Credit unions in Pennsylvania alone are in 285 school districts with 55 in-school branches. So they have a presence with young adults in high school throughout the commonwealth,” said Conway. “They’re getting their hands involved with financial institutions in these in-school branches. But beyond that, they’re also counseling these young adults and families, as well. There’s a lot of proactive work being done to help people with financial literacy.”

DeFoor spoke about the ‘Be Money Smart’ campaign, a K-12 financial literacy program started in November 2021, touting credit unions’ work to provide this important programming.

“Surveys of adults and surveys of educators, a lot of them are saying there is a need for financial literacy,” said DeFoor.
